Channel mapping: Frequently asked questions

Updated yesterday

How do I check that my rates are mapped to a channel correctly?

To check if your rates are mapped correctly to a particular channel:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels tab.

  2. Click on the ellipsis button (three dots) next to the name of the booking channel.

  3. Select Edit room rates mapping.

  4. Review your room rates to ensure they're mapped to the correct rates on the channel.

  5. For each channel room rate, click Configure to verify settings.

  6. Ensure "Start updating channel" is set to Yes to enable inventory updates.

  7. Make sure all available rates are mapped.

Important: Check "Rates mapped: X of Y" at the top right corner - both numbers must match (e.g., "10 of 10") to prevent overbookings and ensure all channel rates receive inventory updates.

Why isn't a channel receiving inventory updates?

Check these common issues if your channel isn't receiving inventory updates:

  • The channel isn't properly connected: Enable the channel in its channel settings

  • Missing rate mappings: Ensure all your room rates are mapped to the channel

  • Disabled channel room rate: Navigate to Distribution > Channels > Edit room rates mapping > Configure on the disabled rate > fix configuration errors > set Start updating channel to Yes

  • Channel restrictions: Some channels block updates for derived or package rates - verify with your channel partner

  • Limitations: Certain channels or certain channel rates don't support all update types - check if these must be managed in the channel's extranet

How do I check if the channel or specific channel rate supports certain inventory updates (rates, availability, restrictions)?

Check what the channel supports

Check when connecting the channel:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels tab.

  2. Find and click on the channel you want to connect to.

  3. Review the details about what inventory data can and can't be sent to the channel (Data supported by this channel and Data not supported by this channel).

On inventory grid:

  • Dashes (-) for all rates means the channel doesn't support that update type

  • Dashes (-) for specific rates may mean updates are blocked for certain rate types (like package or derived rates)

Check what inventory data each individual channel rate supports

Check the channel rate configuration for each channel rate:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels tab.

  2. Map a new rate to the channel, or click on an existing channel rate > Configure to go to the Channel rate configuration.

  3. Supported inventory types will show in blue under the heading Data supported by this channel rate.

  4. Inventory types not supported will show in grey under the heading Data not supported by this channel rate. These inventory types are not supported and cannot be sent to the channel.

Why is my channel room rate disabled?

A channel room rate becomes disabled when there's a conflict between settings. When this happens:

  • The rate appears greyed-out in Room Rates Mapping

  • You'll see an error message explaining the conflict

  • You'll receive an email notification if enabled

  • No inventory updates are sent to the channel for this rate

To resolve this:

  1. Navigate to Distribution > Channels

  2. Select Edit room rates mapping

  3. Click on the disabled rate > select Configure

  4. Fix the configuration error

  5. Set Start updating channel to Yes

Enable email notifications about disabled rates through your Property name > My account.

How do I find the error message for a disabled rate?

To see why a rate was disabled:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels

  2. Click the ellipsis button (three dots) next to the channel

  3. Select Edit room rates mapping

  4. Hover over the disabled icon (red/yellow triangle warning icon) in the mapping list to see the error message.

  5. Or click on the disabled channel rate and select Audit to view the error history

Why does a room rate exist on the channel but doesn't appear in my mapping options?

A rate might be missing from your mapping options because:

  • It's newly created: New rates take up to 60 minutes to appear

  • Your rate list needs refreshing: Click Refresh next to Rates mapped

  • The rate is inactive: Check if the rate is active in your channel's extranet

Get the most current list of mappable channel room rates:

  1. Navigate to Distribution > Channels

  2. Click the ellipsis (three dots) next to the channel

  3. Choose Edit room rates mapping

  4. Click Refresh next to Rates mapped

  5. Allow a few minutes for the update to complete

I'm getting "All room rates on this channel are currently mapped" error

All available channel rates are already mapped, or rates can't be retrieved from the channel.

Fix:

  1. Click Refresh button next to "Rates mapped: X of Y"

  2. Verify channel is enabled (green status)

  3. Check property code is correct in channel settings

  4. Confirm rates exist and are active in channel's extranet

  5. Wait 60 minutes if rates were recently created

Why is my channel stuck in 'awaiting setup'?

"Awaiting setup" status is normal for some new channel connections and typically takes 24-48 hours. During this time, the connection is being established, our team may reach out for additional credentials, and you'll receive an email when the channel is ready.

Note: Some channels are automatically enabled and won't show "awaiting setup" status, including Booking.com, Expedia, and Hotelbeds.

If setup takes longer than 48 hours, check the following:

  1. Log in to the channel's extranet and navigate to connectivity or channel manager settings.

  2. Verify SiteMinder appears as connected, with both Rates/Availability and Reservations connected (if applicable).

  3. Confirm your property status shows as Active.

  4. Check your property code matches exactly between the channel's extranet and your platform

  5. Confirm you've selected the correct connectivity provider (for example, "SiteMinder RDX").

If the channel is still stuck after 48 hours, contact us with your channel name, how long it's been waiting, and your property code.

How do I update or refresh my mapping to fix syncing issues?

To trigger a refresh and help push inventory to the channel:

  1. Navigate to Distribution > Channels

  2. Click the ellipsis (three dots) next to the channel

  3. Choose Edit room rates mapping

  4. Click Configure on the relevant channel room rate

  5. Click Save (even without making any changes)

This action often resolves syncing issues by re-establishing the connection.

Will disabling a channel room rate stop selling on the channel?

No - disabling only prevents Little Hotelier from sending updates to the channel. The rate remains visible and bookable on the channel.

To stop selling a disabled rate:

  1. Click Configure on the channel room rate, then Save

  2. Apply inventory restrictions: Set a stop sell through your Inventory grid

  3. Remove directly: Delete the rate from the channel's extranet

For Airbnb only, disabling a rate will deactivate the listing on the channel.

I've tried everything but inventory is not syncing, how can I manually push inventory to channels?

Can you check and confirm the following:

  • Check channel settings and connection: Check your channel settings are correct, including the property code and any required credentials

  • Check the channel extranet: Check your setup on the channel and ensure “SiteMinder” is connected as the connectivity provider

  • Check channel status: ensure the channel is set to Enabled.

  • Check rate mapping: Look for unmapped or disabled rates in your channel settings and resolve any errors.

  • Check the Inventory grid: Verify that the values in Inventory match what you expect to see on the channel.

If you have checked the above, contact our support team to help investigate and manually help push inventory to the channel.

Can I receive reservations without sending inventory updates?

Yes, you can create a one-way connection for reservations only:

  1. Map your room rate to the channel

  2. Keep Start updating channel set to No

This requires managing inventory manually on the channel and increases overbooking risk.

Do all channels handle occupancy the same way?

No, channels handle occupancy differently:

  • Little Hotelier: Allows setting occupancy at both room type and room rate levels

  • Some channels only manage occupancy at the room type level

Note: Never create separate room rates for different occupancies (single, double, triple) on the channel - this creates multiple availability for the same room type and can increase overbookings.

How do I update channel rate configuration settings?

Important note: For most channels, when you change channel rate configuration settings in your platform, you must update the same settings on the channel's extranet and re-save your channel mappings to ensure they sync correctly.

Examples of configuration changes that require this process include occupancy settings, extra person rates, pricing models, or any other room rate settings.

To update channel rate configuration settings:

Step 1: Update the channel's extranet first

  1. Log into the channel's extranet.

  2. Update the room rate settings to match your platform configuration exactly.

Step 2: Re-save the channel mapping in your platform

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels.

  2. Click the ellipsis button (three dots button) next to the channel.

  3. Select Edit room rates mapping.

  4. For each affected channel rate, click on the rate.

  5. Click Configure.

  6. Click Save (even without making changes).

  7. Wait 60 minutes for changes to sync completely.

Settings must match exactly between your platform and the channel's extranet to prevent sync issues and inventory discrepancies.

When do I need to re-map my rates?

You will need to disconnect and re-map your rates if:

  • The property code has changed

  • The rate name on the channel extranet has changed

  • You changed your business model on Expedia — for example, from Expedia Traveller Preference (ETP) to Expedia Collect (EC) — the mapping will no longer sync. Contact our support team first to update your pricing model settings, then you will need to disconnect and re-map your room rates

How do I re-map my rates to the channel?

To re-map your rates to the channel:

Disconnect the current mapping:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels > find the channel

  2. Click on the channel rate you need to disconnect and re-map

  3. Click Disconnect from channel

  4. Review the warning and click Disconnect

Remap the rate to the channel:

  1. Click on the channel rate you need to re-map

  2. Select the correct channel rate from the drop-down menu

  3. Set Start updating channel to Yes

  4. Click Save

How can I prevent bookings while I'm setting up my channel mapping?

Before you complete your mapping and enable the channel, Little Hotelier won't send any inventory updates to the channel yet.

To prevent bookings during mapping:

  1. Log into your channel's extranet

  2. Manually close your inventory or set availability to zero

  3. Complete your channel mapping

  4. Map all rates, make sure the setting "Start updating channel" is set to Yes, and enable the channel

What happens after I enable the channel:

Once your mapping is complete and the channel is enabled, Little Hotelier will start sending inventory updates to the channel and will overwrite any manual changes you made in the extranet.
