What is an unallocated reservation?
An unallocated reservation is a booking that hasn’t been assigned to a specific room in your Calendar. These reservations decrease your room type availability and need to be managed to prevent overbookings.
Common causes of unallocated reservations
Manual bookings
When creating reservations through the Calendar or Reservations, Little Hotelier will display a warning if no rooms are available. However, users may overlook this warning or forget to select a room during the booking process. We recommend verifying room availability before creating a reservation to prevent overbookings, as unallocated reservations will reduce the room type's overall availability.
Channel bookings
For bookings made through your booking engine or connected channels, there are some scenarios that might lead to unavailable rooms. The most common situation occurs when a room type lacks continuous availability throughout the stay period, despite having separate rooms available on different dates. For example, while you might not have a single room available for a three-night stay from 1-3 January, you may have three different rooms available individually across those dates. In such cases, rearranging existing bookings could accommodate the reservation and prevent overbooking. Other scenarios include room closures being applied simultaneously when a guest is making a reservation, or the room type being fully booked.
