Troubleshoot Expedia stop sell issues

If your stop sells aren't syncing to Expedia, or you can't remove a stop sell from Expedia, this is usually due to one of two things. Expedia uses two different types of stop sells that are managed in different places. Or your Little Hotelier rate is not mapped to all of the rate types Expedia uses to sell that room.

Understanding Expedia terminology

Expedia uses different terminology to Little Hotelier. What Little Hotelier calls "stop sell" appears in Expedia Partner Central as the “Availability” row, showing red boxes with X marks. What Little Hotelier calls "availability" is referred to as "Inventory" in Expedia.

This means you may see Availability showing as closed in Expedia Partner Central even though your Little Hotelier inventory is open. If availability is not pushing to Expedia or inventory is not opening, there is likely a room-level stop sell applied in Expedia Partner Central.

Expedia stop sell types

Rate-level stop sells:

  • Managed in Little Hotelier

  • Affect specific room rates only, not entire room types

Room-level stop sells:

  • Managed only in Expedia Partner Central

  • Close all availability for an entire room type

  • Override any updates sent from Little Hotelier

  • Must be removed directly in Expedia Partner Central

💡 In Expedia Partner Central, stop sells appear as the Availability row showing red boxes with X marks. Expedia refers to what Little Hotelier calls "availability" as "Inventory" — so you may see Availability showing as closed even though you have inventory in Little Hotelier. The Availability row shows stop sell status, not inventory values.

Check all rate types are mapped to Expedia

A room rate in Little Hotelier can be sold on Expedia in several ways, for example, as a Hotel Collect sell rate, or as an Expedia Collect sell rate, package, derived rate, or linked rate. If your Little Hotelier rate is not mapped to all of these Expedia rate types, stop sells and other inventory updates will not reach the unmapped rate types.

Package, derived, and linked rates inherit their pricing and restrictions from the main sell rate and are managed directly in Expedia Partner Central. These rate types do not accept stop sell updates from Little Hotelier, even when mapped correctly.

To check your Expedia rate mapping:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels tab and find Expedia.

  2. Click the ellipsis button (three dots button) next to Expedia and select Edit room rates mapping.

  3. Confirm your Little Hotelier rate is mapped to all available Expedia rate types, including sell rates/net rates for both Expedia Collect and Hotel Collect, packages, derived rates, and linked rates.

  4. Click Configure on each mapped channel rate to check whether Stop sell appears under Data supported by this channel rate (blue) or Data not supported by this channel rate (grey).

Check if stop sells can be managed from Little Hotelier

Whether a stop sell can be managed in Little Hotelier depends on the Expedia rate type. Sell rates support stop sell updates from Little Hotelier. Package, derived, and linked rates inherit their restrictions from the main rate.

Check your inventory grid:

  1. Go to Distribution > Inventory.

  2. Find the Expedia rates.

  3. Next to the Expedia channel rate, click on Rates v and select Stop sell.

  4. Checkboxes mean the stop sell can be managed in Little Hotelier.

  5. Hyphens (-) mean the stop sell must be managed in Expedia Partner Central. This applies to derived and packaged rate types.

Check the channel rate configuration:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels > Expedia.

  2. Click the ellipsis button (...) next to Expedia and select Edit room rates mapping.

  3. Click on any Expedia room rate, then select Configure.

  4. If Stop sell appears in blue under the heading Data supported by this channel rate, it can be managed from Little Hotelier.

  5. If Stop sell appears in grey under the heading Data not supported by this channel rate, it must be managed in Expedia Partner Central.

Remove room-level stop sells in Expedia Partner Central

Room-level stop sells appear on the “Availability” row at the top of a room type in Expedia Partner Central, above the Inventory row and before any room rates.

You may notice this if:

  • Your room type has availability and no stop sell on any room rates in Little Hotelier, but the room is not visible to guests searching on Expedia.

  • A stop sell appears in Expedia at a higher position in the interface than where a rate-level stop sell would normally appear.

To remove room-level stop sells:

  1. Log in to Expedia Partner Central.

  2. Go to Rooms and Rates > Rates and Availability > Calendar.

  3. Look for red boxes with X marks on the Availability row at the top of the room type.

  4. Click the affected cells, or use the Bulk Update Inventory and Availability feature to remove the stop sells.

If stop sells are still not syncing

Stop sells usually sync to Expedia instantly, but can sometimes take 15–30 minutes. If availability is still not updating after 30 minutes:

  • Check whether a room-level stop sell has been applied in Expedia Partner Central, as these override any updates sent from Little Hotelier

  • Check all Expedia rate types are mapped. Stop sells and other inventory updates will not reach the unmapped rate types
