Manage extra selling items

Add, modify, or delete extra selling items for your booking engine.

💡Add, modify, or delete an extra for your booking engine in Direct booking > Extras. If you want to create an extra for your OTA channels, you may be able to do so via the channel’s extranet.

What are extras?

Extras are additional products or services that complement your guest’s stay. Examples include:

  • Airport shuttles

  • Breakfast options

  • Minibar items

  • Spa treatments

  • Local tours or activities

  • Romantic packages

Why offer extras?

  • Generate additional revenue

  • Enhancing your guest’s booking experience

  • Encourage repeat bookings

  • Build strong partnerships with local businesses

Types of extras

  • Per Booking: Applied once (e.g., late check-in fee)

  • Per Person Per Night: Varies by guest and length of stay (e.g., meals)

  • Per Room: Applied once per room (e.g., welcome champagne)

  • Per Room Per Night: Applied per room per night (e.g., daily cleaning service)

  • Per person: Applied per guest (e.g., Spa treatments)

Creating extras

To create an extra for your booking engine:

  1. Navigate to Direct Booking > Setup > Extra selling items. 💡 You can also get here from Setup > Website and promotion > Extra selling items.

  2. Click Add extra

  3. Follow the steps to create a new extra

  4. Click Save extra

Taxes on extras: To manage taxes applied to all extras or specific extras, go to Payment > Taxes. Choose whether the extra's price is displayed inclusive or exclusive of tax.

Making an extra mandatory

Tick the Mandatory extra checkbox if you want this extra to be automatically included in the rate plan. When ticked, the extra will appear as part of the rate plan description on your booking engine and guests must purchase it with their booking. When disabled, the extra remains optional and guests can choose whether to add it during booking.

Meal inclusions on your booking engine

Use Direct Booking > Extras for optional, paid meal add-ons only, for example, an add-on breakfast at an additional charge.

To display complimentary meal inclusions (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) on your booking engine, set these up in your rate plan in Rooms and rates > Rate plans, not in Direct Booking > Setup > Extra selling items. Meal inclusions configured in your rate plan automatically display to guests on your booking engine.

Managing extras

  1. Navigate to Direct Booking > Extras

  2. Click on the ellipsis (...) next the extra you want to modify

  3. Choose from the following options:

  • Edit

  • Assign

  • Duplicate

  • Delete

Reorder your extras

You can change the order of which your extras will appear on your booking engine. To do this, go to Direct booking > Extras, click on the Reorder extras button, and drag and drop extras to change their order. Note that on the booking summary, extras appear in the order guests selected them, regardless of extra type (per person, per room, etc.). The display order for the booking summary page cannot be customised.

How extras appear to guests

Guests will see extras at the end of the booking process, after they:

  1. Select their check-in and check-out dates

  2. Choose the number of rooms and guests

  3. Select their preferred rate plan or package

  4. Click Book

  5. Enter their details and click Continue
