What are derived rates?
Derived rates help you save you time by reducing the need to manually update prices across all your booking channels. They’re useful when managing multiple rate plans, making it more efficient to adjust pricing. For example, you can derive these rate plans from your standard/best available rate (BAR):
Non-refundable - decrease by 10%
Early bird discounts - decrease by 20%
Breakfast included -increase by $20
When you update the price of a linked rate, derived rates will be automatically adjusted. Setting up derived rates at the rate plan level affects all associated room rates, including room rates, channel room rates and direct booking rates.
You can override derived pricing when needed to create a dynamic pricing strategy that maximises revenue across channels while saving time on manual updates.
Set up a derived rate plan
Navigate to Rooms and rates > Rate plans
Click the rate and select Edit
Under Pricing details > Rate setup, use the Derived from drop-down menu to select your base rate
In the Adjust daily rates by drop-down, select how you want to adjust rates (for example by an Amount or Percentage, Amount then percentage, or Keep rates the same).
Enter a value (for example, 10 or 20). Do not include a + or − symbol. Use the Increase by or Decrease by dropdown to set the direction of the adjustment.
Click Save
Understanding derived rate overrides
While derived rates can help automate your pricing strategy, you may need to override them for specific channels or dates.
Common scenarios:
Peak season adjustments: temporarily increase your non-refundable derived rate
Channel specific promotions: override rates for flash sales on your website or online booking channels
Override derived rates
To override values for derived rates:
Room rates: add override in Rooms and Rates > Rate Plans
Channel rates: add override in Distribution > Channels > Rooms rates mapping > click on channel rate and select configure
Direct booking rates: add override in Direct booking > Rates
Steps:
Click on the rate and select Edit.
Under Pricing details, click on Override rate plan pricing.
Enter the new price.
Click Save.
Set up date specific overrides
To override derived rates for specific date periods:
Click on the rate.
Click on +Add rate override.
Select the date range for the override to apply.
Select how you want to adjust rates (for example by an Amount or Percentage).
Enter a value, then select Increase by or Decrease by.
Click Save.
Apply overrides for inherited settings
For derived rates, you have the option to override inherited settings. When a field (such as release period or inclusions) appears greyed out with a padlock icon, it means the value has been inherited from the room type or rate plan.
To override this value:
Click the lock icon to unlock the greyed-out field.
Enter the new value.
Click Save.
The overridden value will only apply to the specific rate you are editing.
